Disability Coaching with Norman Kunc |
| WHAT IS DISABILITY COACHING? Life-Coaching simply helps people become more intentional about their lives. Disability Coaching uses the life-coaching model to address the issues that come up when you live with a disability. When I work with you as your Disability Coach, we have three 45-minute phone calls over the course of a month. In these phone conversations, you identify an area in your life you would like to improve. I help you explore the obstacles that might be getting in your way and help you brainstorm specific actions that will help you move towards your goal. At the end of the phone conversation, we agree upon tasks that your will carry out before our next conversation. I also help you be accountable to yourself. If, by the next phone-call, you haven’t been able to follow through on your tasks, we’ll look at what got in the way and you can decide whether you want to try those tasks again or try something different. Life Coaching is founded on the premise that people are creative resourceful and whole. As your disability life-coach, I’m not going to offer you advice. Instead, I’m going to be your partner as you work on improving the quality of your life. If there are times that I have information that I think would be helpful to you, I’ll tell you that I am stepping out of my coaching role, offer the information, and then step back into the coaching role. Volkswagen has a commercial that says: On the road of life, there are drivers and there are passengers. Drivers Wanted. I think its easy for all of us to drift into the passenger seat and leave the car on autopilot. As your disability coach, I am going to help you get back into the driver seat and steer your life in the direction you want it to go. |
